Via Egnatia was built between 146-120 BC in the ruins of an ancient pre-Roman road that ran by the countries of the Adriatic and Aegean reached. Later Evros spread from Byzantium and all the way from Rome to Constantinople, was named after Gnaeus Egnatius, who ordered its construction.

Via Egnatia is the first date of Strabo in "Geographica", between 40 BC and 10 AD. Also mentioned was a few years earlier in the year 59-58 BC C., in the work of Cicero and through militaris (Military Road), who arrived in Thessaloniki and was used by the speakers closer to the city. Part of the road, the section that runs between Neapolis (Kavala today) and Thessaloniki, was used by the apostle Paul, around 40 AD., during her trip to Greece.

Via Egnatia was a road of greater ARDS European ¬ standing. Was prepared and had signs, military camps, horse changing stations, bridges and out of cities, roads, side roads as much as Romans in Britain, Italy, Spain or Greece.
