This is a review of magic to the Bone by Devon Monk. (Roc, 4 November 2008).

The setting is Portland, Oregon, where Allie Beckstrom lives in a old who hates apartment because the building smells to use magic, especially when it rains. Though his father is a businessman important and rich, intense dislike for him Allie means that rather live in poverty to make money from it.

She makes a small salary to work as a sleuth, someone who can draw the lines of magic back to its user. In this urban fantasy, magic had been discovered 30 years ago.

This is what he has to say about magic. "Magic, as drinking, sex and drugs, gave as good as we have it. But unlike drinking and the rest, the magic can do incredible good. In the right hands, used as correctly, could save lives, relieve pain, and simplify the complexities of the modern world …. Using the magic that used to say back. Magic always has its due by the user, and the price is always pain. "

In his pursuit of work there must use magic and she always suffer from it, often with a migraine and a loss of fragments of his memory. This day will receive a call from Mama Rossitto who lives in a run down part of town. One of his sons was wounded. When it finds Allie that the magic has downloaded the innocent child, while the user continues without consequences. Allie also discovers that the magic line is the signature of his father.

This event touched off the adventure that comes to take charge of your life. She meets the handsome Zayvion she soon learns her father's works. She is very attractive Zayvion, but given your employer, how could she trust him? Then he sees a newspaper headline that his father was murdered. The tension increases when Allie learns she is the prime suspect and is being chased by a group of claims on the wrong side of magic.

I loved Devon Monk Description intricate of magic and the way it is used in this world. This magic has a darker side than is usually found in other novels of this genre. The characters, all of them are interesting but not always fully. Sometimes it was hard to understand why certain individuals acted as they did. One exception is a young man named Cory. It has been used, brutally and discarded by an entity of evil, yet Cody is an inner strength to survive.

Despite some misgivings, I found very strong energy and momentum that kept me reading until the last page. I will most certainly read the sequel

Some people may not want to admit it, but the world is slowly moving towards an energy crisis. Non-renewable resources such as fuel fossils are much more than people to extinction. We always knew that the energy we use everyday is not unlimited, however, constantly taken for granted. Oil, gas, electricity, even water has limited availability. However, we have not taken enough precautions to deal with a very real threat of an energy crisis. When I say 'we' I mean not the world's governments, but for all of us ordinary people. We are the only ones who can make a difference.

To counteract this crisis, it is important that we learn to reduce our dependence on energy sources that are not renewable and begin to focus on energy solutions we can provide a continuous source of energy that does not leak any resources. There are 3 main energy sources that fall into this category: hydropower, wind power and solar energy.

First, let's look at hydropower.

Hydropower is the most used form of renewable energy in the world. Typically generated by large-scale hydroelectric dams. Although it is indeed a renewable energy source, Hydropower comes with some drawbacks. Hydroelectric projects have been known to have adverse effects on surrounding aquatic ecosystems. An example is that studies have shown that dams along the shores of the Atlantic and North Pacific salmon stocks have declined due to preventing access to spawning grounds upriver. A major disadvantage of hydropower, though rare, is the risk of burst dams. In southern China, the dam failure Banquier killed 171,000 people and left millions homeless. Although it is an effective source of renewable energy is not as environmentally friendly as the other 2 main renewable energy sources, wind power and solar.

Let's look at wind energy.

Windmills have existed for thousands of years. Are higher electricity itself. In pre-industrial times, which were used to promote sailing and boats, are used for pumping water, and used as a means of natural ventilation in buildings.

Wind energy has many advantages: It causes absolutely no pollution of any kind. That consumes no fuel and has virtually no impact on the environment at all. Wind energy can help generate tonnes of megawatts of electricity. When used at home, can help eliminate sources of conventional energy, reducing your electricity bill and may even completely eliminated. Energy Wind is an excellent source of permanent power, renewable.

Finally, let's look at solar energy.

Solar energy is with far the most available source of continuous, renewable energy on the planet. It is easily capable of providing the world's total current energy demand many times. Solutions solar energy at home are another way to drastically cut power bills or completely eliminate altogether. Moreover, solar energy has no effect on the environment whatsoever. It is the largest source of environmentally friendly energy in the world.

About the Author:

Setting up your own wind and solar system not only benefits you by cutting down your power bill, it benefits everyone by helping to stop the dependency on non-renewable resources.
Wind and solar power solutions at home are not as costly as one might think either. Even if you are on a budget, you can easily set up a wind and solar system at home.

Marcel Pagnol's Marseilles Trilogy was adapted into a Broadway musical in the mid-'50s; a few years later, that show's producer, Joshua Logan, turned it into a film... without the songs.
