Displaying the latest Toyota Tundra commercial, and realizing what it really means, reminds one of watching Mike Tyson fight when he was young … is a progressive sense of dread and inevitability about the outcome.

Having identified the next automotive frontier to conquer, Toyota has begun the process of dismantling of their opponents, and – at best Sun Tzu (legendary general and author of "The Art of tradition) to war – they are using their own tactics against them. Ultimately, it may not matter that U.S. automakers have been building great trucks for decades and still do.

Because "the Great American Truck 'has always been marketed as a masculine icon, nearly all previous advertising campaigns they have been a male outside the next guy. A rich tradition in the truck business world for the gruffest, manliest voice talk about the product, thereby inspiring, but Toyota has dangerously upped the ante Tundra with this voice-over actor … this type makes Sam Elliott sound like a schoolgirl laugh.

As soon as American ad types realized that people knew that Toyota is building many of its cars and trucks here in the States, came to an ancient time "field of American History." Already you know … "We have been building, since they were flying over Pearl" and the like. But these little huts are really just a distraction from the real game: At some point, we return to the product – price, quality, operating costs, the depreciation rate you … namely, money.

In Toyota plants worldwide, a single worker is expected to stop the assembly line if he thinks there is a problem or if you think there is a way of improving the process. In the U.S., unions are very effective in promoting a variety of things, but creative thinking and individual recognition is not among them. To say that does not happen, could not happen, but it's hard to imagine one of our boys stop the assembly line. Well, you know, without being beaten in the face with a baseball bat.

The U.S. automakers more directly in the firing line Tundra are obviously Ford and Chevy. This reality might be a good thing, because if people take the time to place all their options through the steps, you can find (to their surprise) that it is little – if anything – to choose between brands.

But what if we find that we can not fight them in the field of quality? That our powers of persuasion are limited by the upper voice-over actors? What soon will be before we start thinking the unthinkable … be roused from its former enemy of Mothra-induced sleep may actually be the last, best hope? And what message to send to our children when asked – and you are asked – if there was any other way to have competed for this business? "Dad, why why we wake the monster "?

Oh … humanity!

Ivan Morley's paintings are inspired by the tradition of the pioneers of Scrappy, dry California cities with names like San Gabriel, El Monte, and Tehachapi. Local and their all-but forgotten (and possibly artist-fabricated) data – if you can call tales of memorable cockfights and observations on the behavior of the stories of squirrels, it seems unlikely that the sources of inspiration.

Yet, from a mass of myth, a dose of his own vivid imagination, and a wide range of raw materials, Morley has created some mighty idiosyncratic pictures. The whole spectacle was arrested along with a keen sense of detail, with texts telling some stories attention on the walls. To create his paintings, Morley applies dyed fabric, wax, varnish, dense patches of colored thread, and sometimes oil paint to a range of supports that includes jeans, glass, bedding, and canvas. Sometimes, the paintings on glass, peel off the image, and puts other support.
