In this inventive book, Peter Fritzsche explores how Europeans and Americans saw themselves in the drama of history, how they took possession of a past thought to be slipping away, and how they generated countless stories about the sorrowful, eventful paths they chose to follow. In the aftermath of the French Revolution, contemporaries saw themselves as occupants of an utterly new period. Increa...

Critical Theory and Liberation Theology discusses two major features of the crisis of western modernity: the first of these arises from the assumption that any value-based societal critique rests upon an arbitrary or purely "emotive" choice of first principles. The second is that the Christian churches have not developed an understanding of the relationship between faith and modernity that e...

Parker J. Palmer

It was on 10 December 1889, when George Parker received his first patent for his fountain pen. This did not stop finding ways to develop their pens and do better in terms of quality. In the space of just 18 months away, Parker was given another 2 patents for his pens. At this point in time, their feathers were considered part of an improvement in the industry as well.

It was in 1892 when Parker decided to partner with William F. Palmer. Both had been friends for quite some time, with Palmer is one of the successful insurance workers or agents at the time. With their partnership sealed came the rise of the Parker Pen. The next few years saw great promise partnership, with Parker acquire more and more patents for its feathers.

One particular patent that caught the attention of many people in the market is that of the Lucky Curve pen, patented in 1894. This pen was one of the first to make use of capillary action. What happens here is that the design of the pen has been developed to prevent heating of the ink when exposed to temperature from the grip of the fingers. Moreover, the curve help prevent ink from getting soiled, especially when you remove the cap. In 1898, the Lucky Curve pen was redesigned by Parker himself, so it is a lower feeder pen now, and giving it an appearance more attractive to the eye.

With the start of the next century, the fountain pen is becoming a status symbol among the elite. This can be attributed the fact that only education and the elite could read and write, therefore, be the only ones who have the need for a fountain pen. Have a pen Parker reliable in the trailer is a strong indication that the owner is as educated as the elite should come. Moreover, the feathers less developed power supply in time came with gold tips, making it more expensive for all to see. During the period from 1900 to 1915, Parker developed silver, gold, pearl, gold or filled with feathers source, which are now treated as collectibles in the industry.

It was also around this period when it developed the feather of the Snake. This legendary pen was black rubber that was hard to touch. The pen dropper full, and there was a snake that wraps around the barrel and cap. The snake came in gold or silver. Snakes also came with emeralds and rubies in her eyes. Truly an impressive collection of which can be found on the market.

But it was in 1906 when it developed the pen of the company emblem. This was the first pen that bears the logos associated with secret societies. Have you heard of the Knights of Columbus? The emblem of Parker pen has carried their logo as well. Today, the Parker Pen company can attest 60,000 logos that they have in their database. These logos are representatives of all type of businesses and enterprises worldwide.

In 1921, however, the company launched another first in the history of fountain pen, the Parker Duofold. This pen was large, with the bright orange color. The Duofold was clearly a leap from the contemporary style and design that has been associated with the pen. But the public loved it, making the pen a huge success right then and there!

Today, the Parker Pen Company has expanded abroad, with branches in Canada and England. The huge empire built by George Parker is definitely one that is here to stay, especially in industry fountain pen.
