Ringo Starr was never really given by its creator as an influence on the Beatles. While he was very overshadowed by the composer divine combination of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Starr was a talented drummer who had excelled in various bands around Liverpool before being invited to join the Beatles. Starr was one of the Beatles more popular among fans, and sang on several tracks for the band, many of which could best be described as novelty songs. One of the most memorable of these the Beatles Yellow Submarine.

Yellow Submarine was released on the album 'Revolver' in 1966. Revolver was something of a turning point for the band, as was a mixture of rock and roll and folk-rock oriented. They had previously conducted with the most cutting edge, and the psychedelic sound strange to come to define the production of their coming years. The Beatles Yellow Submarine told the story of a man who set out to live below the ocean, and details of animals and people he encountered on his journey. The song is heavily laced with hallucinogenic imagery and nuances, and the theme of the track was slightly adopted 2 years after the animated film Yellow 'Submarine' – produced in the height of the bands of interest in mind-altering substances. The film to engender a sound track record and a 6-Track EP, 'Yellow Submarine' was most likely a collection of previously recorded and ends an adequate record. In fact, the second side of the record contains no Beatles song at all, and is instead a showcase for the composition of producer George Martin.

'Yellow Submarine' suffered from negative publicity on its release in relation to comments made by flamboyant Lennon about Jesus Christ. He failed to reach number one, but quickly reached the rank of gold. Revolver, on the other hand was a huge commercial success, and has been widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best album released by the Beatles. Ignoring the possible drug connotations, the image of child friendly of 'Yellow Submarine' created a familiar image in the minds of many of Ringo Starr, and later in life was capable of using this race a success of children.
