The user interfaces of web browsers called "chrome". Is the name inspired by the books of William Gibson?

Gibson (Neuromancer) uses the word "chrome" as an adjective to describe the furniture, computers, etc. One of his collections of stories is always called "Burning Chrome". Some say that Gibson was inspired by the Internet and the Matrix trilogy. Just wondering if the use of "chrome" to describe the user interface of browsers Web is a dedication to Gibson.

"Chrome" is usually used to refer to something that looks pretty without adding any functionality to a product. It is an abbreviation for "chromium", a shiny metal used in electroplating. Its use in computer terms is before Gibson's books.
