Bitmaniac

Clark A. Smith (poet, artist, sculptures and novelist), along with several Arkham House authors, including Richard L. Tierney, de Camp, Lin Carter, HP Lovecraft, Robert Howard, George Sterling, all poets, all writers of short stories, two generations of them, got into what I call the Highway of Death. We wrote about the horror, the suspense, demons that lurk, and fantasy-like ER Burroughs: Mars or Venus. That archeology is mixed with folklore, and outer space, shook it up, and went adventures Lumeria, and Atlantis, and the series of cave women and men before the time of Adam and Eve, so here are two poems by now, lost to the highway from the dead, or perhaps the third generation:

Snub nose and thick lips —

Viscous and thin (a man of tension);

I always thought the art of CASA:

Chalice, features human feline

He had his own, like his attitude,

And poetry, like an Olmec god.

Crumbling Archaeologist 2)

Bones placed near cities

With vines and ferns and rocks and faults —

From the jungles, deserts, temples and pyramids,

From the seas and ancient cities restless! …

Wind: the disappearance of the hiss of the ruins.

And what is left in absolute-enda?

A snake, a bird, a goat and a hena …!

Note: the only thing stronger than my love of poetry is perhaps the archeology, and maybe it's a coin flip. So for the archaeologist, I dedicate this poem in particular to my friend on Easter Island, Charlie Love.
