"The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (assessment of quality: 7 out of 10) (English)
Director: Mark Herman
Screenplay: Mark Herman Based on the 2005 novel John Boyne
Cast: Jack Scanlon, Asa Butterfield, David Thewliss, Vera Farmiga
Duration: 1 hr., 33 min.
PG-13 (a little very adult material and thematic concern involving the Holocaust)

Eerie.

Strange feeling subliminally disturbing.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas "is presented as an 8-year-old point of view, but the level of treatment of the story is a little baffling, that of an adult. Yet this highly unusual Holocaust story clings tenaciously to a suspense slowly Welling. Much of that, quite obviously, is simply because we know where this is headed in its great history, if not the specific choice of the fabric of management. And that, please be warned, ends in a depressing hardness case, more surprising, abrupt and inappropriate, following the gentle flow of the narrative film. The dialogue is deceptively quiet key parts, however, vibrates at a rate ominous.

The story begins during World War II in Berlin the summer (shot in Budapest) on 1942 (background note: after Hitler, in January at the Wannsee Conference, it is assumed that, having given the order "The final solution of the Jewish problem", ie, extermination).

Berlin. The streets are lively and happy with the public (non-Jews, of course) on his walks in the parks and happily oblivious to the dire turn of the tide against their troops in Russia and what is happening to Jews. A family celebrates the military officer promotion Ralf (David Thewlis) to a new position. Untitled.

Ralf, 8-year-old son of Bruno (Asa Butterfield) is not happy with dad taking them all away to a new residence in the country. "It is only until the war is won, "he said. Everyone else is happy with the move. That is, except the grandmother. She is wary of the Nazis, including the promotion your child in the party.

The family takes the train home to a neo-Bauhaus. It is surrounded by a wall, not defined in the location. His life begins.

Increase Grandma fears. She notes with a shudder when his teenage daughter, Gretel (Amber Beattie) is being brainwashed Nazi by the stern tutor, Herr Liszt (Jim Norton), who will advise you, at a later time, that Jews are not really people. And there is her father's handsome assistant official for Gretel's in love.

Is almost as unstable mother (Vera Farmiga), who confronts her husband with his participation in the nearby farm ", where the gaunt, brutally hard work "farmers", everyone wears striped pajamas, all confined behind electrified fences. This house where the family lives now has its views blocked in side of the farm.

The father advises his son Bruno that her work "for the good of the country" and is "trying to make the world a better place." But in the meantime feel hopelessly Grandma deterioration of his family. Oveheard is a casual remark about what Auschwitz is everything.

One day, Bruno escapes and finds their way to wire fence of the farm. There, in the interior, mets a boy his age, soft-temper Shmuel (Jack Scanlon). The use of "pajamas. They concern and Bruno begins to gather, after talking much, just what is really happening here. Mysterious smoke, the smell in the air. And this, Bruno realizes slowly (very convincing slowly) is where his father works.

However, it is said in the home, the numbers According to Pajamas are just part of a game. And that smell of smoke odor is just burning trash.

Bruno is increasingly suspicious of his father.

Cleverly, the characters are more distinctive than they should be. That is, there are no stereotypes, but the results are so strong they are transfused with red blood. Thewlis Nazi officer, the father of children, is many dimensions, disciplined Nazi fantasy, but a tired man, often allowing the inmates in the middle of the surface of the rage that spews propaganda. The mother treats very difficult being a German strong even when it is saturated with doubts.

And the two boys, creepily are interrelated, which was based on a marvel insistent, the other with the hidden fear. They are like two microcosms of their respective cultures, a turn-the-other-German population, the other a child of millions years of persecution.

One may be postponed by the accents in English, but the choice in a film whose themes are universal of them, is excusable.

This film, as written, is not alone. You must, at its base current, our common knowledge of the reality of the Holocaust. Aforehand Without that knowledge, if they saw him as a person totally ignorant of this amazing global event and only saw him as, well, a movie, move along of a monotonous rhythm, but certainly not unspecial. You would be so surprised that so offended by his emotional outburst was mild treatment leading to it.

This is one of those movies that just need to stay there. It needs no further justification.
