En este centro se dedican a conservar documentos, así que nada mejor que acudir a ellos para que nos expliquen como mantener limpios y a salvo de polvo nuestros libros.

Cuando uno colecciona libros es muy probable que encuentre viejos tomos interesantes, pero por el hecho de su edad, apesten. Ese olor característico a libro viejo, a papel con vida propia, se debe a la baja calidad del mismo, su porosidad, y la consiguiente humedad que se acumula. La humedad propicia la aparición de todo tipo de vida microbiana y bacterial, responsable de ese olor.

Sin ser fétido, puede llegar a ser molesto si la cantidad de libros o papel es importante. Apenas hace unas semanas un paquete de Estados Unicos, con varios volúmenes de revistas de los 50 en su interior, se podía percibir claramente en la distancia. ¡Sólo por el olor!
